Having an addicted person in
your life can be a nightmare!
Welcome! We know how alone you can feel when addiction is tearing your family apart. That’s why we offer you a warm, supportive community of Loved Ones of addicts – we’re very glad you’ve found us!
Loving someone who has an addiction problem is often like being trapped on a roller-coaster of chaotic and painful emotions.
You never know what’s going to happen from one moment to the next. It can be like living in a re-occurring nightmare that you can’t seem to wake up from.
The ongoing lies and the broken promises, the constant worry and fear, the dwindling hope that someday things will change…
This can be a very isolating and frightening experience.
The fear, guilt, and shame that Loved Ones of addicts often feel can lead to them withdrawing into their own unique world, unwilling – or perhaps feeling unable – to ask for the help they need.
And yet – it is this outside perspective, continuing support, and a sense of belonging that can often make the biggest difference in learning to love oneself, despite the challenging circumstance of navigating life with an addict.
Whether the addict in your life is your spouse,
partner, parent, child, friend, or colleague,
the good news is that there is a way
to end your suffering and...
Loving an Addict, Loving Yourself:
The Online Support Program
shows you how.
Building on my award-winning book, Loving an Addict, Loving Yourself: The Top 10 Survival Tips for Loving Someone with an Addiction, this Online Support Program goes beyond the pertinent information…
…to offer Community, Group Support, and access to trained Counsellors who are collectively there to support you through this challenging experience, as your journey of transformation unfolds….
It doesn’t matter what kind of addictive behavior your loved one is struggling with.
It could be alcohol and drug misuse; an eating disorder; smoking; gambling; an Internet, relationship, or sex addiction; compulsive shopping and over-spending – or any combination of the above.
All addictions have negative consequences for the Loved Ones as well.
It’s not news that many family and friends get caught in the vicious “cycle of addiction” and don’t know how to untangle themselves from the spiral of destruction that the addict is engaging in.
Hi Candace, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your book and think I should buy a case of them to hand out to all our family! I have been at two family workshops, one in Alberta where I did start to learn a lot and then a month later in the US where my daughter is currently in rehab. It has been quite a journey to understanding all of this and what my job is as the mother of an addict. I just felt so compelled to email you and tell you that you wrote an awesome book and that I will continue to share with others bits and pieces of it... Thanks again!

Hi Candace,
I just finished your book! I found it easy to read and straight forward. I like that you provided clear descriptions that set up examples of individual addictive cases, and showed practical solutions in how to address the various problems. I really liked the quotes at the beginning of each chapter, in fact, I looked forward to them because they were so insightful. I especially liked the chapter on Self Care and what to do to be sure I'm providing myself with the right kind of self-care, especially because I love someone who is addicted to heroin and other drugs.
You are so respectful toward your reader in how you make the book accessible to people of a wide age range, and of different spiritual orientations. Your book is so valuable to those of us who love someone with an addiction. I'll be referring to it time and time again. A reference source of well-being. Well done, Candace!

This is a wonderful, practical book that gets straight to the point (or 10) without a lot of background noise that distracts from helping oneself, loved ones, friends and/or family. After all, at the end of the day, we may be the addict that we most need to love…?

Hi Candace, Thank you so much for your inspiring book and congratulations on your success! You are proof that we are able to turn our lives around for the better even when we are faced with very difficult circumstances. All the best to you!
Sincerely, Catherine
‘Loving an Addict, Loving Yourself’ is such a straightforward approach to dealing with an addiction situation with a loved one or ourselves. One of Candace’s favorite sayings in the book is that “If nothing changes, nothing changes.” It is the desire to change our lives from where we have drifted into the paralysis of addictive and/or codependent behaviors to active steps of self-realization and care. Candace gives us the 10 most important survival tips on ‘how to’ get from there to here in this easy-to-read guide. For me, reading it was an epiphany that one can choose to change from ‘drift’ to ‘direction,’ and survive as a much stronger and more loving person. I give away new copies to friends and family because my book always stays by my bed to be read and re-read.

My husband and I have worked with Candace since September 2015 when we found out that our daughter is a heroin addict. We have met with Candace on a regular basis; attended her weekend workshops and participated in her telephone support group. We have learnt so many aspects of life with an addict and the effect it has on loved ones. My friends ask me how I have been able to deal with the tragic situation as we have witnessed our daughter’s life spiral downward and I credit many of Candace’s coping strategies. We now make decisions as new situations occur with Candace’s words of advice in our heads.
- L.M.
We are both so grateful for Candace’s help and guidance as we live our lives in the midst of a nightmare. Candace’s book has been an excellent start in our journey of acceptance and coping when we realized that our daughter is an addict, which I have finally been able to share with many friends and family members, without having to feel the shame and guilt I felt before we met Candace.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes – absolutely. We understand your need for privacy as the Loved One of someone with an addiction, and we have made provisions for that.
The only people who will be able to be part of the Support Options are others who have registered and purchased their own copy of the Loving an Addict, Loving Yourself Online Support Program. This means that only others in the same situation you’re in will be part of the monthly Telephone Support Group, the monthly Q&A with Candace on Facebook Live, or the ongoing, private Facebook Group Page.
That is a great question and others have asked the same thing.
For those of you who have read the book, listened to the audiobook or have done some work in the Workbook, the primary difference between doing that on your own and doing it as part of the Loving an Addict, Loving Yourself Online Support Program will be the community you’ll be part of and the various avenues of support you’ll be receiving that way. For many people, this is the most important part of this Online Program.
The content pieces of the book/workbook/audiobook are available as an additional resource, broken up into easy-to- follow segments.
As you access these parts together, you will find yourself experiencing the holistic life transformation that you have been looking for – and the wonderful ripple effect is that the addict you love will very likely begin to make some shifts of their own as well.
I have worked with thousands of clients over the years, and every one of them who have followed these strategies has reached their goals. The addicts in the family have stayed clean and sober - and most of all, the Loved Ones have gotten their lives back.
If you follow these strategies, they will work for you as well.
I can say this because they've worked for me too. As a recovering addict myself, I’ve been clean and sober for over 30 years - and my relationships with my loved ones are now healthy and healed.
Candace Plattor’s work has effected a powerful positive change in my life.

Loving an Addict, Loving Yourself was my crucial first step in breaking free from the ongoing pain of an abusive, addictive relationship. This little blue book is so wise and wonderful. It was instrumental in creating the joyful life I’m now living.
